Kraft box manufacturers

Buyers should focus on GSM (Grams per Square Meter) and bursting strength. For standard shipping, a weight of 120-175 GSM is common, while heavy-duty applications require 200+ GSM. Ensure the material is 100% recyclable or FSC-certified if sustainability is a brand priority. Additionally, distinguish between Kraft-faced board (white or brown) and test liners to ensure the desired aesthetic and durability.

The choice depends on the balance between cushioning and structural strength. B-flute (3mm) is excellent for die-cut mailer boxes due to its crush resistance, while C-flute (4mm) is the standard for shipping cartons providing better stacking strength. For retail packaging requiring high-quality printing, E-flute (1.5mm) offers a flatter surface for offset or flexographic printing.

If the boxes are for food contact, they must comply with FDA (US) or EC 1935/2004 (EU) regulations. Ensure the supplier provides migration test reports and uses soy-based or food-safe inks. Verify that the boxes are free from PFAS and heavy metals to meet modern environmental safety standards.

The primary cost drivers are printing techniques and die-cutting. Flexographic printing is cost-effective for large volumes, whereas digital printing is better for low MOQs. Custom die-cut shapes involve a one-time tooling/mold fee, which can range from $100 to $500 depending on complexity. Opting for standard sizes can significantly reduce lead times and costs.

Kraft paper is highly hygroscopic. You must require the supplier to use heavy-duty plastic inner liners (polybags) and include desiccant silica gel packs in each master carton. Ensure the outer shipping pallets are shrink-wrapped to prevent humidity absorption during long-term transit in containers.

Focus on volume-based pricing tiers. Suppliers often offer a 15-25% discount when moving from 1,000 to 5,000 units. Request a breakdown of the plate-making fees and ask for a sample credit, where the cost of the prototype is deducted from the final bulk order payment.

Always request a pre-production sample (PPS). Use Made-in-China.com's 'Audited Supplier' reports to check the factory's production capacity and ISO certifications. For large-scale orders, consider hiring a third-party inspection service to perform a Random Sampling Inspection (AQL 2.5/4.0) before the final balance is paid.

Kraft boxes are often shipped flat-packed (knocked down) to minimize volume and shipping costs. Calculate the Volumetric Weight versus actual weight. For large quantities, FOB (Free On Board) is recommended so you can control the freight forwarder and avoid inflated destination charges often found in CIF terms.
