Wholesale makeup manufacturers

Safety is the highest priority in cosmetics. You must ensure products comply with FDA regulations (U.S.), EC No. 1223/2009 (EU), or GMPC (Good Manufacturing Practice for Cosmetics). Always request a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and a COA (Certificate of Analysis) for every batch to verify the absence of heavy metals like lead, mercury, and arsenic.

Start by requesting pre-production samples to test for pigmentation levels, blendability, and oxidation. For liquid products like foundations or lipsticks, check for viscosity stability and shelf-life (PAO - Period After Opening). It is highly recommended to use third-party inspection services to conduct 'drop tests' on palettes to ensure they won't shatter during transit.

Focus on ingredient transparency and packaging integrity. Ensure the supplier uses non-toxic, BPA-free primary packaging to prevent chemical leaching. If you are targeting the eco-conscious market, verify Cruelty-Free, Vegan, or Paraben-Free claims through recognized certifications. For applicators, specify materials like synthetic Taklon bristles for brushes or latex-free sponges.

The unit price is only one factor. You must account for specialized packaging (bubble wraps/custom inserts) to prevent breakage, temperature-controlled warehousing if necessary, and import duties based on HS Codes (typically Chapter 33). MOQs (Minimum Order Quantities) for custom colors are usually higher (e.g., 1,000+ units per SKU), so balance your inventory risk against the volume discounts offered.

The biggest risks are formula inconsistency and intellectual property (IP) infringement. To mitigate this, use Made-in-China.com's Secured Trading services to ensure payment is only released upon quality verification. Avoid 'knock-off' designs that mimic big brands to prevent customs seizures and legal liabilities in your home country.

Negotiate for batch consistency guarantees and lead-time penalties. Professional B2B buyers often request a 'Golden Sample' to be kept by both parties as a quality benchmark. For long-term partnerships, discuss exclusivity clauses for specific custom formulations or shades to maintain a competitive edge in your market.

Cosmetics are often classified as 'sensitive goods' by carriers. Liquids and powders require specialized shipping routes and documentation (MSDS). Ensure the supplier uses reinforced 5-layer corrugated outer cartons and shrink-wrapping to protect against moisture and pressure changes during air or sea freight.

Look for the 'Audited Supplier' badge, which indicates the factory has been verified by independent agencies like SGS, Bureau Veritas, or TÜV Rheinland. Check their factory profile for specialized cleanroom facilities (ISO 22716) and review their export history to see if they have experience shipping to your specific region.
