Apple fruit packaging boxes manufacturers

For apple packaging, the most critical factor is structural integrity to prevent bruising. You should prioritize 5-ply corrugated cardboard (BC flute) for export-grade strength or 3-ply (B or E flute) for retail displays. Ensure the material has a high bursting strength (BST) and Edge Crush Test (ECT) rating to withstand vertical stacking in cold storage and shipping containers.

Apples are often stored in high-humidity environments. You must specify waterproof wax coating or PE lamination on the interior and exterior surfaces. This prevents the box from softening due to condensation or moisture absorption. Additionally, ensure the design includes ventilation holes (die-cut vents) to allow for proper airflow and ethylene gas dissipation, which extends the fruit's shelf life.

Since the packaging comes into contact with food, it must adhere to FDA (US) or EC 1935/2004 (EU) food contact safety standards. Look for suppliers with FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification to ensure sustainable sourcing, and verify that the printing inks are soy-based or water-based (non-toxic) to avoid chemical migration into the fruit.

To enhance marketability, choose offset printing for high-resolution graphics or flexographic printing for cost-effective bulk branding. Consider customized inserts (pulp trays or foam dividers) to prevent fruit-to-fruit friction. For premium markets, UV coating or matte lamination can be applied to the exterior for a luxury feel.

Always request a pre-shipment inspection (PSI) by a third party to verify the paper grammage and moisture content. Use Made-in-China.com's Secured Trading services to ensure payment is only released after the quality meets your specifications. It is also advisable to order a physical production sample before mass production to test the box's load-bearing capacity.

Packaging boxes are bulky; therefore, they should always be shipped flat-packed (knocked down) to minimize shipping volume and costs. Calculate the container utilization rate—a 40HQ container is usually the most economical for large orders. For international trade, FOB (Free On Board) is recommended so you can maintain control over the freight costs and logistics provider.

Typical MOQs for custom-printed boxes range from 1,000 to 3,000 units. To get better pricing, offer a long-term procurement forecast to the supplier. Negotiate a staggered delivery schedule if you lack warehouse space. Ensure the contract specifies a lead time of 15-25 days, with clear penalties for delays that could affect your harvest season.
